The Council of the Americas held its 39th annual Washington Conference on the Americas, bringing together leaders from across the Americas, including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In 2008, AS/COA Miami welcomed leaders from throughout the hemisphere for public and private events, and hosted discussion forums on immigration, energy, and the regional economic outlook, among other topics.

In 2008, AS/COA visited nine countries as part of our Latin American Cities series. Conferences and private events were held in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay.

During the week of the United Nations General Assembly, Americas Society and Council of the Americas hosted private and public programs with the presidents of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Panama, and Paraguay.
